Today, EA officially revealed that Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor are working on a brand new single-player turn-based tactics game, Star Wars Zero Company.

While not too much news regarding the game was revealed, it was stated that players will lead an elite squad of soldiers on a special mission, following orders via unique turn-based commands. More info will be discussed during the Star Wars Celebration Japan this week on April 19 at 4:30 PM JST, where the developers will provide a first look at the combat and will break down key aspects of gameplay.

Bit Reactor is a studio made up of former Firaxis Games veterans, who are best known for their work on the XCOM franchise. The company launched back in 2022, and just three days later, it was revealed they’d be working on one of the three Star Wars titles in production, meaning the game has been in (early) development for around three years now.

It has been a while since Star Wars has had a true tactics title, with the last one being Star Wars: Force Arena, which released exclusively for mobile back in 2017. Previous games like Empire at War are remembered fondly by fans, but feature a bit of a different direction compared to the turn-based focus that it seems Bit Reactor’s XCOM experience will present.

Respawn already has a good amount of experience with the Star Wars IP in recent memory, as they’ve been responsible for creating Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, both of which were a hit among fans. A third title in the trilogy is also currently being developed.

Alongside the Jedi series, Respawn was also in the midst of making a first-person shooter set in the universe, which was ultimately cancelled following workforce reduction at EA back in 2024, which saw the company lay off 670 individuals throughout the portfolio.

For more information on these titles and Star Wars Zero Company, be sure to check back following the event later this week.
